Introduction

My name is Angelica Fairclough, and this is my first website. I will showcase my First Nation culture and the artwork that I have created.
I am a wolf clan member of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nation. Traditionally we made art with what we had and gathered. I learned how to bead from my mother and grandmother. My mother taught me how to make silverberries into beads. I was able to learn how to sew with animal hide and sinew. The animal hide can be stretched and dried to make drums for singing and dancing.

 

Traditional Crafts

Growing up, I learned how to sew from my mother and grandmother. In our culture, we watch, we learn, we do, and then we teach. This way, we pass on to the next generation. These were the old ways of doing things—Dan K’e-Our way. When my daughter gets older, I will be teaching her along with my mother. We use what we have gathered and harvested to make garments or make accessories.
